Victim Accepts Ride Home to Los Altos and is Assaulted

An unidentified man was severely beaten about the face and head after forgoing a taxi outside a Santa Clara karaoke club.

A man who accepted a ride home from strangers at a karaoke club was severely beaten in front of his south Los Altos home early Tuesday morning, police said.

A neighbor on the 1400 block of Fallen Leaf Lane called police because of a loud disturbance at 2:46 a.m., Los Police Capt. Andy Galea said. Police and Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies responded and found two suspects and one victim, who was severely beaten in the face, eyes, head and shoulders, Galea said.

The victim, whose identity was withheld, was taken to Stanford Medical Center. Though his injuries were severe, they were not life-threatening, Galea said.

Arrested were San Jose resident Shiseop Kim, 22, on suspicion of battery with great bodily injury, violation of probation and resisting arrest; and Si Woong Chang, 37, on suspicion of battery with great bodily injury, a felony charge. Kim's probation violation was for a prior assault, Galea said. They were detained and taken to Santa Clara County Jail in San Jose.

The victim, who was in his 40s, apparently was waiting for a taxi after a night at the Kun karaoke club in Santa Clara. The suspects, who were strangers, offered him a ride home, the victim told police. Once they arrived at his residence in Los Altos, he was attacked.
