Vandalism, Again, At Hillview Center

The Top 5 from the Los Altos Police log include a non-injury accident, a petty theft, a fraud report and, after a short absence, a small resurgence of gas leaf-blower complaints.

 

 

Residents walked into the station to report a fraud case and a bicycle theft, Monday. Meanwhile someone damaged the lock on a small shed at the Children's Corner preschool at Hillview Community Center.

1. Malicious Mischief

- 8:34 a.m., Hillview Community Center, Vandalism, cold report. Agent Mark Bautista said the lock to a small shed at the Children's Corner preschool had been damaged. The damage was judged as vandalism and not signficant enough to appear to be a burglary attempt, Bautista said. 

2. Parking Violation 

- 8:37 a.m., Casita Way & Jardin Drive, parking violation complaint, citation issued.

3. Accident 

- 9:02 a.m., Homestead Road and Sweet Oak Drive, Cupertino, accident, no injuries, determined to be Sheriff's Office jurisdiction 

4. Gas Leaf Blower Complaints

- 9:44 a.m., 400 block of Cuesta Dr. , gas leaf blower violation, warning given

- 9:52 a.m., 1000 block of Covington Road, gas leaf blower violation, warning given 

- 10:11 a.m., Arthur Court & Granger Avenue, gas leaf blower violation, citation issued

5. Theft and Fraud

- 7:04 p.m., 1000 block of Covington Road, petty theft, walk-in cold report, report taken. A party reported a bicycle was stolen from Blach Jr. High School 

- 8:33 p.m., 1300 block of McKenzie Avenue, walk in, fraud report taken. The reporting party said she had received an invoice for items she had neither  purchased nor received, using a credit card she did not possess.

 

The preceding incidents are from the Los Altos Police log on Monday, April 30, 2012. All incidents listed are initial reports. When there are arrests mentioned in our daily logs, it does not mean there was a conviction.

The only problem with the charter school is that they cause more problem than they solve. TheyRead More want to close Covington, then Blach. So, they don't provide flexibility at all. They keep going to court. This is a case were the remedy is worst than the disease. The original idea is that we have to be creative with the 10th site. Land is scarce, and most likely, we cannot provide the same facility than other school within the district. People are not happy about being moved from their school (with good reason I feel) Solution: provide an inspiring project. May be an immersion program, or a more academic program, or maybe a program to help english learner from K-3. If we don't innovate with a more flexible program, we might just need to redraw the boundaries every 5-7 years. Nobody can foresee the future, but you can build flexibility.

Maybe offering a magnet school could help with stability? It can balance out enrollment at otherRead More schools so that attendance boundaries do not have to be redrawn. Isn't the charter school doing that for the LASD district right now?

I saw you had a good discussion on the definition of a neighborhood school. But beyond theRead More definitions, I would like to ask why does palo Alto school District and Cupertino School district have a mix of neighborhood school and some choice school. Those are two high performing district right next to us. Can a choice school be an excellent way to stop the highly disruptive attendance boundary change ? People say I am for statu quo, that I am against change. I feel that family and children need stability, that is why we don't change spouse at the pace the BoT change the attendance boundary. People who want some stability at home (and their school) do make a reasonable request.
