UPDATE: Winter Holiday DUI Crackdown Nets 432 Arrests

Complete arrest numbers will be available later this week.

Editor's note: The number of arrests in for the Avoid the 13 enforcement were updated as of 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2. The numbers provided by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office are through midnight, Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2012, and are not yet the final count for the DUI crackdown.

The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of driving under the influence (DUI) arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special “Avoid the 13” DUI deployments during the past several days in Santa Clara County.

While complete results are not yet available, pending results from some agencies, preliminary numbers show that from 12:01 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, through midnight, Tuesday, Jan. 1, officers representing Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies arrested 432 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2011, 491 DUI arrests occurred during the same time period.

Extra DUI Saturation Patrols have been deployed in the cities of Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, Santa Clara, San Jose, Cupertino, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, and the town of Los Gatos.

The CHP also deployed all available officers for their Maximum Enforcement Period during the New Year’s holiday weekend which ended at midnight Tuesday, Jan. 1.

The Avoid the 13 Taskforce will again deploy DUI operations and Patrols during Super Bowl Sunday February 2, 2013.
