Update on Downtown Gas Main Break
City releases more details about Thursday morning's evacuation. No injuries, explosions, fire or property damage.
Businesses and restaurants on and near First Street were evacuated for around an hour on Thursday morning, after street excavation work ruptured a gas main, according to a city report.
Workers called 911 at 10:38 a.m. Los Altos Police arrived at 10:40, and immediately began evacuating neighboring businesses. County Fire was on the scene just two minutes later. PG&E reportedly arrived at 11:03, and the ruptured pipe was sealed by 11:11.
The city report states that there were no injuries, explosion, fire or property damage as a result of the rupture. The report didn't specify if the accident will cause a delay in construction work.

Major work to improve infrastructure along First Street and at the intersection of First and Main streets began July 18, and is expected to be completed by November.
