UPDATE: Firefighters Extinguish One-Alarm Fire at Cement Plant

The blaze damaged truck equipment and tires in Cupertino on Sunday morning.

UPDATE as of 6 p.m.: Additional information received by Patch since the initial report of the fire includes a resident eye-witness report and a company statement from Lehigh Cement.

At least one resident in Oak Valley, adjacent to Rancho San Antonio reported hearing "a loud explosion...around 5 a.m., but could not see anything till dawn, when we saw a large amount of smoke to the south of us, over the hill in Rancho San Antonio Park."

Lehigh Permanente reported "an equipment fire involving trucks at the Permanente quarry, which was not in operation at the time. It was quickly extinguished and we are pleased to report that no injuries occurred as a result of the incident."

Firefighters extinguished a one-alarm fire at a cement plant at Lehigh Cement Plant Sunday morning, a Santa Clara County fire dispatcher said.

The fire was reported at about 5:45 a.m. at Lehigh Southwest Cement Plant, located at 24001 Stevens Creek Blvd, the dispatcher said.

Truck equipment and tires were believed to have been damaged in the blaze, the dispatcher said.

No one was injured, and the fire was under control at about 7:45 a.m. The cause remains under investigation.
