Traffic on Page Mill? That's HBO Filming

Another (sigh) show mocking Silicon Valley culture using Page Mill Road, University Avenue and the workhorse street East Charleston Road, as backdrops.

What's that going on Page Mill Road? More auslanders mocking Silicon Valley start-up culture, of course.

Los Altos Hills residents heading down the hill may experience traffic delays the film crews along Page Mill between Peter Coutts and El Camino Real, and then along El Camino to Embarcadero Road from through noon Tuesday, the Palo Alto Police Department said.

And if you had plans for an early dinner in downtown Palo Alto—or were headed that way enroute to U.S. 101—expect slow going on University Avenue as crews film between Waverly and Webster, 4 to 8 p.m.

Detours will be set in place and officers will be working traffic control in the area to assist motorists. All downtown businesses will remain open, and officers will periodically open University Avenue to ease traffic congestion when possible. Drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes if they plan on commuting through the downtown area.

The filming is for a 30-minute pilot of an HBO series directed by Mike Judge, who gave the world "Beavis and Butthead" and directed "Office Space (1999). Palo Alto police Lt. Zach Perron said HBO applied for permits under the name "Untitled Silicon Valley Project."

According to the Internet Movie Database, the pilot is for a show expected to air sometime this year called "Silicon Valley."

The University Avenue portion of the filming will be mostly on the sidewalk but there may be intermittent lane closures on University Avenue between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Lt. Perron said.

Downtown businesses will remain open throughout the filming.

Also, between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., crews will be on East Charleston Road between Alma Street and Middlefield Road.

Only minimal traffic backup is expected in those areas, police said.
