Top 5 from the Los Altos Police Log, Oct. 24: Serial Robbery, Arrested Housekeeper, Elder Fraud

It was a busy Monday for the Los Altos police.

The following information was supplied by the Los Altos Police Department. Wherever arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. A fuller report will follow on Saturday.

1. Serial Robber

1001 Fremont Avenue; 1:01 p.m.; A serial bank robber suspected of hitting five other Bay Area banks struck Los Altos just 20 minutes after robbing another bank in Sunnyvale, Los Altos police sergeant Cameron Shearer said.

The suspect entered the  at Loyola Corners, went up to the teller, and presented a demand note stating he was armed. A full robbery report is here.

2. Theft Arrest

600 block of Benvenue Ave, 11:29 a.m.; a homeowner set up a “nanny-cam” in her house after she noticed missing jewelry. The camera recorded the housekeeper allegedly stealing jewelry and shoes, with an estimated value at $500. Police responded and found items from the house concealed in the cleaner’s mop bucket and vehicle. Maria Flores, 38, of Mountain View, was arrested for theft and possession of stolen property. The total value of the items allegedly stolen over time is not known. 

3. Elder Fraud

2100 block of Fallen Leaf Lane, 4:50 p.m.; a woman reported that her elderly father may be victim of financial elder abuse by an acquaintance. A report was taken.

4. Found Wallet

Foothill Expressway and S. Springer Road, 5:40 p.m.; a person found a wallet and turned it into the police department.

5. Suspicious Circumstances

100 block of Jardin Avenue, 2:03 p.m.; a resident reported tampering with a mailbox; officer responded.
