Top 5 From the Los Altos Police Log: Juvenile Arson on Wednesday, August 24

Fire crews put out small fires in Hillview Community Center restrooms.

1. Arson Reports: one arrest

9:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24; Hillview Community Center on Hillview Avenue. Sgt. Scott Bunch said police and Santa Clara County Fire were called to the community center on a report of a fire in the bathroom. A juvenile suspect was identified and arrested after confessing. Fire department responded and put out the fire. Unknown amount of damage. 

7:41 a.m., Wednesday, August 24; Hillview Community Center on Hillview Avenue. According to Sgt. Cameron Shearer, a paper towel dispenser was apparently lit on fire in a bathroom of the community center. Sgt. Bunch said it is unknown whether the two arson cases are related. The fire arson team is investigating both, he said.

2. Threats Cold Report: 9:26 a.m., Wednesday, August  24; 1100 block of Covington Road; a subject was assisting an elderly relative with an upcoming move. One of the people living at the house didn’t appreciate his property being moved and threatened the reporting party, telling him that he was going to kill him. Incident was mediated by police.

3. Minor Injury Accident: 6:41 a.m., Wednesday, August 24; 400 block of Santa Barbara Drive; subject was driving down the street and sneezed. When he sneezed he veered off into a parked car.

4. Disturbance Reports

- 1:41 p.m., Wednesday, August 24; 200 block of Main Street; Store employees wanted an unruly patron removed from the store. Subject was escorted off the property by police officer.

- 8:35 p.m., Wednesday, August 24; 4800 block of El Camino Real; Report of Physical Fight: Male and female were involved in a physical fight in front of the bus stop at Whole Foods. Female was arrested for domestic battery.

5. The Rest

- Noise Complaint: 8:56 p.m., Wednesday, August 24; 300 block of S. San Antonio Road; police responded, quiet on arrival and quiet on departure.

- Stranded Motorist:  8:26 p.m., Wednesday, August 24; Foothill Expressway and Magdalena Avenue; report of broken vehicle that will be towed, information passed on to patrol.
