Top 5 From the Los Altos Police Log: Fat-Finger Dialing, April 13-15

Oh, those 911 hangups, the reckless driving going on, and the disturbances! Despite that, the only arrest was for being drunk in public this past weekend.

The weekend's report, from Friday to Sunday, was peaceful, yet there are just a few things that stand out.

Those 911 hangups. Seven over three days. Calls abandoned. Callbacks unanswered (Yoo-hoo, you just called 911, were you just foolin'?) And then, there's the fat-finger syndrome. Or in-a-hurry syndrome. Or can't-see-the-buttons syndrome.  You want to make an international call. So you start with 011. Except your fat fingers dialed 911. And then you hang up in a hurry when you realize it's the 911 dispatcher picking up. Don't do that! Stay on the line and admit it, even if you're a little embarrassed to say that's what happened. It wastes response time.
