To the Editor: Thank You To Our Volunteers

The commander of the CHP office serving Los Altos and Los Altos Hills thanks those who have volunteered, and invites others to use their experience to help the CHP.

Dear Editor:

National Volunteer Week, April 15-21, is the perfect opportunity to thank those who already volunteer and to encourage others to seek out volunteer opportunities.

One way to give back to the community in which you live is to apply with the California Highway Patrol’s Senior Volunteer Program. By volunteering with the CHP, seniors have the opportunity to be a part of the largest internationally accredited law enforcement agency whose mission is to provide safety, service, and security to the citizens of California.

Developed in 1992 to better serve the needs of the local communities, the Senior Volunteer Program has made a positive impact on the efficiency and productivity of the CHP.

Our volunteers have also enhanced traffic safety and service in the surrounding communities by performing tasks that support the goals of the CHP. Currently, the statewide program boasts more than 740 volunteers who contributed in excess of 150,000 volunteer hours in 2011.

As the Redwood City Area commander, I would personally like to invite seniors, age 55 or older, to be a part of our Senior Volunteer Program.  This is a unique volunteer program that allows participants to share their life’s experiences, while making a solid contribution to the community in which they live.

Those interested in applying are asked to contact Senior Volunteer Program President Frank Shissler at (650) 369-6261.
