Crime & Safety

This Week From the Los Altos Police Log: Theft Edition, July 29-August 4

Seven thefts, including a grand theft, and a major injury accident were among the events reported by Los Altos Police this week.

A grand theft, six other reports of theft and one major injury accident highlighted the Los Altos Police log from the period of July 29 to August 4.

The following information was supplied by the Los Altos Police Department. Wherever arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The week's lone case of grand theft was reported on Eastwood Court on Thursday morning. According to Sgt. Cameron Shearer, a female left her laptop on the ground next to her vehicle and it was taken; no suspect or further information was available.

That same morning, a bike worth about $600 was gone after being left overnight in front of a residence on Casita Way.

Another theft was reported that night from Echo Drive; Shearer said the case is still pending, adding that the report was probably unfounded.

On Tuesday, August 2, a 50-year-old male was cited for shoplifting at Draeger's Market on First Street, according to Sgt. Brent Butler. The subject was released at the scene for petty theft.

On Friday, July 30, a theft of personal items from a house on Thorpe Court was reported. Butler said the time of the incident was unknown and that the case is still under investigation.

Two thefts from a vehicle were reported the following day: clothing taken from a vehicle on Crist Drive and tools taken from the bed of a truck parked on El Sereno Avenue. Butler noted that in both cases, the thefts occurred some time overnight.

A major-injury accident occurred on Sunday when a vehicle hit a pedestrian at the Foothills Congregational Church on Orange Avenue. The pedestrian received injuries to the legs and was admitted into Stanford Hospital.

On Thursday, a minor injury accident occurred on El Camino Real and Jordan Avenue. Shearer said there the subject had complaints of pain, but no further details emerged.

Five non-injury accidents were reported during the week.

Parents called to report their son missing on Tuesday night, but he was found at his residence in Santa Clara.

A "Be on the Lookout" broadcast occurred on Wednesday morning when Mountain View Police requested the Los Altos department to look for two males possibly casing to commit a crime in their city. Butler said the Los Altos police were asked to look out for a dark green or red 1992 Mitsubishi. The car was not located in Los Altos.

There was a report of gunshots heard Monday morning at St. Anthony Court and Matthew Way; officers showed up in the area but were unable to located anyone or what made the noise. There was no news of any prior incidents at the location, Butler said.

On Wednesday afternoon, there were four reports of suspicious circumstances between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.; three also occurred on Thursday between 4:47 p.m and 9 p.m.

In Thursday's first suspicious person report, on Miravalle Avenue, the reporting party returned home and discovered that her rear glass door was smashed. The inside of house was not disturbed, according to Shearer. It is unknown whether there was a burglary attempt or vandalism or if the window shattered for another unknown reason.

The week also featured five noise complaints—three involving loud barking dogsan egged car, and a drunk in public arrest.

The locations and dates of these and some additional incidents are noted on the map, above and to the right on this page, that accompanies this report.
