This Week From the Los Altos Police Log: Sept. 9-15

This week featured a couple of bicycle thefts as well as grand thefts.

This week's round-up of police incidents also include events that were handled by agencies other than the Los Altos Police.

Two bicycle thefts and three grand thefts were the top items on the Los Altos Police log during the week of Sept. 9-15.

The department reported that on Monday, Sept. 12, an unlocked bike was taken from the Grant Park bike rack between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The bike is valued at $400 and the police had no information about the subject.

The following day, Tuesday, Sept. 13, the department reported another bike theft. This time at the 100 block of Chester Street. According to Sgt. John Korges, it may have been just an abandoned bicycle.

The third occurred Sept. 11, when the police department reported a grand theft of a laptop, which was taken from the reporting party's living room at the 900 block of Highlands Circle. The $475 laptop was entered into the stolen property system.

The department also reported a grand theft on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7:46 p.m. at the 2200 block of Homestead Court. The following day, another grand theft was reported at the 500 block of Tyndall Street. Both grand theft reports were taken by an officer.

On Monday, Sept. 12, the Santa Clara County Fire Department reported of a passenger vehicle fire at S. El Monte Avenue and College Court. According to the fire department, it was a mechanical fire in which the driver, who was on the freeway, saw a small fire coming from the engine. He turned onto College Court where he applied a bottle of water to extinguish the engine. Property loss was $1,500. 

This week also featured five non-injury accidents and three reckless driver reports, one of which occurred at 1:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the 300 block of First Street. The following day, officers were advised to be on a lookout for a reckless driver at Grant Road and Foothill Expressway. That evening there was another reckless driver report, occurring at St. Joseph Avenue and Foothill Expressway.

In addition, there was a report of graffiti on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the 1500 block of Holt Avenue. The next day, the department reported an incident of malicious mischief that occurred at 10:30 a.m. at the 800 block of Carnation Court. An officer assisted and reported it to be vandalism.

Other notable items this week include two Be on the Lookout Broadcasts, one of which was a hit and run that occurred at 11:59 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 10 at N. San Antonio Road.  There was another Be on the Lookout Broadcast on Friday, Sept. 16 at 3:43 p.m. at Shady Springs and Truman in Mountain View. However, it was cancelled by the requesting agency.
