Crime & Safety

This Week From the Los Altos Police Log: Sept. 2-8

The week featured a pair of accidents initially reported as major injury, and four petty theft reports.

Seven automobile accidents—including two reported as major-injury incidents—and four petty theft reports were the top items on the Los Altos Police log during the week of September 2-8.

The department reported  a bicycle-on-bicycle collision at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 5 at Foothill Expressway and Arastradero Road; the incident ended up being referred to Palo Alto Police Department.

The other major injury accident was reported at 8:56 a.m., on  Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Miramonte Avenue and Covington Road. According to Sgt. Cameron Shearer, a male in 40s driving a Volvo station wagon eastbound on Covington struck a 20-ish year old female riding her bike northbound on Miramonte across the intersection.

The female was transported to El Camino Hospital with a complaint of pain to her back. Shearer said it is likely not a major injury despite the way dispatchers entered the initial call. The male driver was at fault for failing to yield to oncoming traffic at a stop sign-controlled intersection. Both subjects initially stopped at their respective stop signs prior to the crash. No citations were issued.

Three of the petty theft reports occurred over the Labor Day weekend. A petty theft from a vehicle was reported at 11:18 a.m., on Monday, September 5 on the 500 block of Covington Road. The vehicle and victim were not on scene for a report.

A theft of a bike was reported at 5:55 p.m., that same day on the 200 block of Delphi Circle; no report was desired. Two days earlier, a skateboard was reported taken at 9:03 a.m. from the 300 block of Alicia Way.
