This Week from the Los Altos Police Log: Residential Burglaries, Grand Theft & a Bike Accident

Laptops, jewelry and cash are among the things stolen in burglaries reported in the Los Altos Police Department's log, July 15-21.

Three residential burglaries, a case of grand theft with combined losses totalling nearly $35,000 and a collision involving a bicyclist were reported this week in Los Altos for the period of July 15 - 21.

The highest burglary loss was reported at 3:58 p.m. July 15, at a residence on Riverside Drive, where the suspects apparently entered through an open bedroom window, said Agent Neal Randles. He said jewelry and a laptop computer with a combined estimated value of $27,000 was taken.

That same day, another burglary was reported at 8:52 p.m. on Queensbury Avenue where suspects took laptops, jewelry and cash valued at $3,550, Randles said. There was no evidence of forced entry, he said, and it was not evident how suspects got into the home.

Another burglary was reported on Homestead Court July 17 when a specialized mountain bicycle taken from an underground parking facility. Randles said the suspect cut a lock that secured the bike to a structure. The bike was valued at $1,000.

A 41-year-old San Jose man was injured Thursday at 10:13 a.m., while riding his bicycle on Foothill Expressway near Grant Road, according to Sgt. Scott Bunch.

Bunch said the man collided with a parked vehicle and sustained injuries to his face and arms. He was taken to Stanford Hospital for further treatment. Bunch said his injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

Five other traffic accidents, in addition to the incident involving the bicyclist were also reported during the period.

Two non-injury accidents also occurred that day; on at 7:42 a.m. on S. San Antonio Road and Foothill Expressway and another at 9:24 p.m. on Petersen Court.

A minor injury accident occurred Monday at 3:17 p.m. at the intersection of Fremont Avenue and Hazelaar Way.  Two other non-injury accidents were reported; one on Cuesta Drive at 10 p.m. Tuesday, and the other on Fremont Avenue and A Street at 6:47 p.m. Monday.

In other Los Altos police news, Christine Reyes, 38, was arrested at her home on Tyndall Avenue Tuesday night on a felony warrant for grand theft. No further information was immediately available as to whether she remains in custody.

An adult was bitten by a roommate's dog last Sunday at their shared residence on Arboretum Drive.

Two people were arrested in connection with having had too much to drink July 17—one for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and the other for being drunk in public.

The DUI arrest occurred at 2:40 a.m. when the motorist was stopped at 2:40 a.m., at the intersection of Foothill Expressway and Edith Avenue. The drunk in public arrest occurred the same day at 9:21 p.m. on S. San Antonio Road and Third Street.

Four cars were towed from State Street on Thursday where set-up was taking place for the Los Altos Farmers Market.
