Crime & Safety

This Week From the Los Altos Police Log: Aug. 5-11

Nine accidents, two petty theft reports and a burglary report were the top items on the Los Altos Police Log for the week of Aug. 5-11.

Nine traffic accidents - one with minor injuries - two reports of petty theft, a burglary report, a female's call for help and a “Be on the Lookout Broadcast” highlighted the week of Aug. 5–11 in the Los Altos Police Log.

The minor injury accident was reported on the evening of Thursday, Aug. 11, after a vehicle and a motorcycle collided at El Camino Real and Jordan Avenue. Sgt. Brent Butler said one of the parties involved had back pain and was transported to the hospital.

Three non-injury accidents occurred on Tuesday, including an evening incident at S. San Antonio Road and First Street when a vehicle and bicyclist were involved. An officer responded and the accident was determined to be non-injury. Names were exchanged and no report was filed.

On Wednesday  afternoon, a student library card was taken out of a backpack at Los Altos High School. Butler said no other information was available and that a report was taken.

On Wednesday morning, officers responded to a report of a possible vehicle burglary at the 900 block of Regent Drive. Butler said no auto theft or burglary had occurred.

That same afternoon, a female was heard screaming for help at the 4800 block of El Camino Real. The Mountain View Police Department requested a check on the Los Altos side of the El Camino Real to locate the subject. The request was cancelled prior to the Los Altos Police's arrival. No assistance was needed and no crime occurred.

On the evening of Friday, Aug. 5, the Los Altos Police Department was requested to “Be on the Lookout” after the Santa Clara Sheriff's Office had a call of two gun shots heard in the area of Burke Road and Fremont Avenue, with loud voices and a vehicle speeding away. Nothing was located.

That same night, a 42-year-old male was arrested on State Street and booked at Santa Clara County Jail for being drunk in public. The time of release was unknown.

Thursday featured three other notable incidents. A case of fraud was reported in the morning on the 800 block of Echo Drive when money was taken out of a bank account located in New Jersey.

Early at 2:31 a.m., on the 100 block of N. San Antonio Road, there was a report of subjects throwing rocks and oranges at employees leaving a business. Butler said officers arrived on scene and did not locate employees or people throwing the objects, but oranges and beer cans were found in the parking lot.

And at 10:58 p.m. on the 200 block of N. Clark Avenue, there was a report of a prowler after the resident thought someone was in their backyard due to noises. The backyard was searched but no one was located.

On Monday evening, there was a report of harassing text messages. The victim came to the LAPD lobby to inquire about text messages that were received and they ended up not meeting the criteria of a crime. The victim did not file a report.

The week also included: a report of a smashed mailbox on Friday evening, two animal reports - a noisy, barking dog and a loose dog - on Thursday, a vicious dog report on Wednesday and a total of three gas leaf blower violations.

On Sunday, there was a missing person's report filed at 9:34 p.m. after a male went out for a walk and had not returned within the normal time frame. The male eventually returned home after being lost and the report was cancelled.

The locations and dates of these and some additional incidents are noted on the map, above and to the right on this page, that accompanies this report.
