The Week in Crime: June 10 to 16 Los Altos Police Blotter

A case of arson, a case of grand theft, a case of grand theft and six non-injury traffic accidents were at the top of the list of incidents reported by Los Altos police for the period.

It was a relatively quiet week for Los Altos police, with one case of arson, one arrest for driving under the influence, one case of identity theft and seven non-injury traffic accidents reported  for the period between June 10 and June 16.

The arson was a minor incident at the Hillview Community Center where an unknown suspect or suspects set fire to an old plastic chair Wednesday afternoon, according to Police Capt. Andy Galea.

Galea said some type of oil was used as an accelerant, but the fire burned out on its own. No arrests have been made.

There was also a case of grand theft reported Thursday at a residence on Almond Avenue. No further information was immediately available.

One person was arrested for driving under the influence last Friday at 3:47 a.m. at the intersection of El Camino Real and Ortega Avenue.

An incident of theft and fraudulent use of a credit card was reported Sunday at 4:15 p.m. from an address on Alta Vista Avenue.

A dog bite incident was also reported Tuesday on University Avenue at 9:33 p.m. No further information was immediately available.

There were six non-injury accidents this week. One was reported last Friday at 10:36 a.m. on El Camino Real. Two accidents occurred last Saturday. One on First Street at 3:13 p.m. and the other at the intersection of El Camino Real and San Antonio Road. A fourth accident occurred Tuesday at the intersection of N. San Antonio Road and Pine Lane.  A fifth non-injury accident was reported Wednesday afternoon on Main Street, while the last for this period occurred Thursdayat 6:08 p.m. on Homestead Road. 

There were two instances of suspicious circumstances where police provided assistance early Thursday morning. The first was at El Camino Real at 1:25 a.m. when a suspicious noise was heard. About a half hour later on Morton Avenue police responded to another call about suspicious noise and found a bicycle.
