Rash of Bicycle Thefts at Schools

Bike thefts lead Tuesday's Los Altos Police incident report. Some occur because kids leave their bikes at school overnight, police said, but other bikes were stolen in a very short time frame in the middle of the day.

Los Altos seems to be going through a rash of bicycle thefts, said Sgt. Cameron Shearer. "We're getting slammed lately," he said.

One set of bikes were stolen from Los Altos High School in a two-hour window. In those cases, the locks were cut. The only thing one can do is put bikes in a bike cage, if there is one at the school, to add a level of security, Shearer said.

Other incidents include an arrest for methamphetamine possession, May Day protesters at the Whole Foods Market, and someone blocking a sidewalk.
