Police Say DeAnza Student Rapes Acquaintance on Campus

The incident is believed to be isolated, and there are no other suspects.

A 19-year-old college student was sexually assaulted on the De Anza College campus in Cupertino earlier this week, the Foothill-De Anza Community College District police chief said.

The rape occurred Monday between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. at the college's Media and Learning Center building in the first-floor women's restroom, Chief Ron Levine said. The school is located at 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd.

The suspect is an 18 to 20-year-old man who is a De Anza student, Levine said.

He has not been arrested yet. "We are hoping to be making an arrest soon," Levine said. "We should have a suspect in custody in the near future."

The student and the assailant are familiar to each other, Levine said, but he would not disclose more details about their relationship.

The victim reported the assault Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. to a faculty member.

She was taken to the health services office where personnel contacted campus police. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office is also investigating the rape.

Levine said there are no other suspects and no weapons were used in the attack, which is believed to be an isolated incident.
