UPDATE: Pedestrian Is Identified Who Was Fatally Struck By Car At Arco

The 81-year-old woman, who was hit on North San Antonio Road, may not have been on the sidewalk, police said.

The county medical examiner has identified a Los Altos resident who was fatally struck by a car Thursday morning as Soraya Imam, 81.

Imam was apparently walking up the west side of San Antonio Road toward El Camino Real when she was hit by a car leaving the Arco gas station at San Antonio Road and Loucks Avenue shortly before 9 a.m.

The 60-year-old driver of the gold 2001 Volkswagen station wagon was not cited, said Los Altos Police Sgt. Paul Arguelles, who is investigating the accident. He said that the vehicle had entered the street, heading southbound on San Antonio Road at the time of the accident. "She doesn't appear to have been on the sidewalk, but we don't know," Arguelles said.

Imam was taken to Stanford Hospital with severe injuries. She underwent treatment but was pronounced dead later.

The collision, which is under investigation by the Los Altos Police Department Traffic Division, may take some months. Sgt. Arguelles asked for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact contact him 650-947-2663 or the Los Altos Police Department at 650-947-2770.

If the victim was not walking on the sidewalk, was she walking in the Arco parking lot or in the middle of San Antonio Road? The latter sounds very unrealistic for rush hour.
