Police Calls: Commercial Burglary, And A Buzzing Sound

On Aug. 16, Los Altos Police found an injured animal, solved a mystery and checked out something that went bump in the night, all part of what made it into the Thursday's police log.

 

The Los Altos Police had a mixed bag of calls on Aug. 16, from traffic collisions, to reports of suspicious persons or circumstances, and even a request for help with the strange buzzing sound. Police sleuthed and found the source. Read on.

Traffic Collisions
6:50 a.m., Foothill Expressway and Magdalena Avenue; minor injury accident, report taken

7:04 p.m., Cuesta Avenue and Campbell Avenue, minor injury accident, report taken

Suspicious Package / Vehicle / Circumstances

  • 9:31 a.m., 1500 block of Vineyard Drive; report of a used firework, officer responded and will discard
  • 6:17 p.m., 600 block of Springer Terrace; suspicious vehicle, officer responded and made contact, no report
  • 12:18 a.m., 911, 300 Almond Avenue; request for police to check the area, reference someone attempting to enter the residence, police responded, information received that the doorknob was jiggled, the motion light went on, and the dogs were barking  

Noisy Animal

  • 10:17 a.m., 2000 block of Louise Lane; report of a barking dog, officer responded
  • 10:49 a.m., 100 block of Giffen Avenue; barking dog complaint, officer responded, quiet on arrival and departure

Commercial Burglary

11:13 a.m., walk-in, 994 Acacia Ave.; commercial burglary, cold, loss of briefcase and iPad, report taken  

Fraud

11:45 a.m., 900 block of Fremont Avenue; fraud, cold report, officer responded, unfounded

Found Property

5:34 p.m., walk-in, 1200 block of Covington Road; found wallet, report taken

Reckless Driver

8:33 p.m., Los Altos Avenue and Portola Avenue; report of a reckless driver, officers advised to be on the look-out


Abandoned Vehicle

9:01 p.m., 00 block of E. Portola Avenue; report of an abandoned vehicle, officer tagged vehicle


Report on Conditions

9:26 p.m., 600 block of Springer Terrace; report of a buzzing noise, officers responded and located a smoke detector and removed batteries from it, cleared, no report

Animal Call, Miscellaneous

11:09 p.m., Cuesta Drive and El Monte Avenue; report of an injured opossum, police responded, animal control responded, assistance rendered and animal control picked up the injured animal
