Police Calls: A Determined Construction Site Burglar

The Los Altos Police log for Feb. 20 might make you think twice about storing your tools on site when you are remodeling a home. Plus, Springwood Apartments get hit—again.

 

Feb. 20 was a busy morning as residents in a south Los Altos apartment complex woke up and discovered that one of their neighbors had called 911 overnight about a vehicle break-in—several break-ins. Another burglar was busy not far away making off with construction tools.

  • 7:00 a.m., 2240 Homestead Court; vehicle burglary, report taken. Sgt. Cameron Shearer said the car was parked in the gated parking area and the burglar smashed the side window to get in. Stolen was a vehicle emergency kit and the gate remote control. The estimated value was $150
  • 7:18 a.m., 2260 Homestead court; grand theft from vehicle, report taken. Sgt. Shearer said golf clubs were taken from an unlocked vehicle.
  • 7:46 a.m., 2260 Homestead Court; vehicle burglary, report taken. Sgt. Shearer said burglars smashed a car window and took Long board, gas caps and duffel bag approximately a $500 loss
  • 10:44 a.m., 2260 Homestead Court; recovered stolen vehicle, report taken. A stolen Honda car from San Jose was found at the complex.
  • 10:44 a.m. 2240 Homestead Court; stolen vehicle, report taken. A 2000 Toyote Camry was reported stolen by one of the residents of the apartment complex.

  • 8:50 a.m., walk in, 1000 block of Parma Way, ammunition taken in for destruction, report taken

Fire Assist

  • 12:57 p.m., S. San Antonio Road and Hawthorne Avenue; fire assist

Commercial Burglary:

  • 12:59 p.m., 1700 block of Newcastle Drive; commercial burglary report. Sgt. Shearer said a burglar broke into a home site under construction and stole construction tools. The burglar apparently pushed down a security fence and pried open a door that had been nailed shut. The tools were estimated at a $1,000 loss.

Suspicious Person / Vehicle / Circumstances

  • 1:39 p.m., 200 block of Covington Road; report of suspicious person, officer responded and was unable to locate
  • 5:24 p.m., 4900 block of El Camino Real; suspicious vehicle, officer cleared, no report
  • 3:47 a.m., Feb. 21, 911, 300 block of S. Gordon Avenue; suspicious circumstances, reporting party contacted, no report of a crime, information only at this time
