Middlefield Road in Palo Alto Reopens Following Fatal Accident

If you're heading into Palo Alto, avoid Middlefield Road. Police are investigating a deadly rollover accident.

More than 8 hours after closing Middlefield Road in Palo Alto because of a fatal accident, the busy thoroughfare has reopened.

A cement truck driver died in a crash in Palo Alto Saturday morning, police said.

The fatal accident was reported around 5:10 a.m. in the 4200 block of West Middlefield Road, south of San Antonio Road, police said.

Arriving officers found a cement truck on its side and one man inside. The man, who was the driver and sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported, police said.

Police do not know if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident. The block where the accident occurred remained closed as of 11 a.m. There was no estimated time of reopening, according to police.
