Los Altos Mom Reported Shocking Behavior of Arrested Teen at Chuck E. Cheese's

Teen in play structure Friday allegedly tried to fondle children and was almost hallucinating and disoriented, police said.

A few new details are coming out about a Friday evening arrest of a juvenile male at , allegedly for exposing himself to at least one child in a play structure inside the Cupertino store.

Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies believe that the juvenile, whose name or age cannot be released because he is a minor, was under the influence of some kind of controlled substance, according to Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Don Morrissey.

Customers who were in the Chuck E. Cheese’s on Stevens Creek Road at the time were upset and disturbed about the juvenile's alleged bizarre behavior and company officials say they did everything they could to keep children from him, and from entering the play structure where the juvenile was.

“(The sky tube) was secured,” said a Chuck E. Cheese’s spokeswoman on Tuesday.

The behavior that got the teenager arrested on April 13, however, was visible to customers who were not even on the play structure.

A Los Altos woman, who asked that her name be withheld, was there with her three boys, ages 3, 6, and 8, along with another 8-year-old friend of her son’s.

She saw the teenager, whom she thought at the time was an adult, on the play structure and alerted an employee to his behavior, she said.

“I immediately talked to an employee behind the desk because the man's pants were down and I could see ‘everything’ that he was touching,” she said.

The employees told her they thought the teen was either drunk or had a seizure. A company spokeswoman says a seizure is what was reported by management to the corporate office, and added that since they are not medically trained, they cannot assess what caused the inappropriate actions of the juvenile.

But according to Santa Clara County Sheriff’s spokesman, Lt. Don Morrissey, deputies who reported to the scene believe the teen was under the influence of a “controlled substance.”

The juvenile was disoriented, almost hallucinating, and didn’t know where he was, Morrissey said. He also made incriminating statements, but Morrissey was unable to provide more detail on those statements.

The call to police came in around 7:23 p.m., but at least one witness told Patch the juvenile had been behaving oddly at around 7 p.m. and Morrissey said other witnesses said the behavior may have started closer to 6:15 p.m.

In a play structure at the store on Stevens Creek Boulevard the suspect “tried to fondle children, pulled his pants down and touched himself,” the Patch reader said.

“We were quite disgusted and shocked at the incident,” Patch was told.

Firefighters were called to the scene to assist with treating the suspect for any medical needs.

The teen is in jail, arrested on charges of annoying and harassing a child under the age of 18. Police cannot release the name of the arrested teen because he is a minor. The case is under investigation.
