Los Altos Police Blotter: May 13 to 19, 2011

Two arrests, two minor injury accidents involving juveniles, a stolen car and two cases of grand theft top the list of incidents reported by Los Altos police.

Two arrests, two minor injury accidents involving juveniles, eight other traffic accidents, a stolen car and two cases of grand theft top the list of incidents reported by Los Altos police during the period between May 13 and May 19.

Both arrests involving individuals charged with having too much to drink occurred last Saturday. A motorist was arrested for driving under the influence after a traffic stop at El Camino Real and Del Medio Avenue. Police Sgt. John Korges identified him as Ryan Donahue, 34, of Palo Alto.

A 24-year-old Sunnyvale woman was arrested for being drunk in public in the area of Belleville Way and Fremont Avenues. Korges identfied her as Mary Sumstine.

Police are investigating a case of grand theft involving construction equipment on Capistrano Way reported Wednesday. Korges said there are possible suspects but could provide no other details.  Another case of grand theft was reported on Sunkist Avenue Thursday at 11:51 a.m. No further information was immediately available.

Two juveniles suffered minor injuries in traffic incidents.

A 16-year-old Los Altos youth was hit by a car Tuesday when he was riding his skateboard on Eleanor Avenue, according to Police Capt. Andy Galea. Galea said a silver Range Rover traveling west on Marvin Avenue struck the boy, who suffered minor injuries to his forearm and elbow.

Another juvenile also sustained minor injuries after being hit by a car while riding a bicycle near the intersection of South El Monte Avenue and Giffin Road Wednesday about 5 p.m., Korges said.

In addition to the two incidents involving juveniles, eight other traffic accidents were reported; three more on Tuesday, three on Wednesday, one Monday and another last Saturday.

A minor injury accident was reported Tuesday at 12:31 p.m. on North San Antonio Road; a non-injury accident at the intersection of Berry Avenue and Springer Road at 2:56 p.m.; and the last of the day at 8:57 p.m. on Los Altos Rancho.

The three non-injury accidents reported Wednesday ocurred at 5:47 p.m. at the intersection of South Springer Road and Cuesta Drive;  at 2:35 p.m. at the intersection of Second Street and Plaza Central, and at 9:34 a.m. on Hillview Avenue.

One other non-injury accident occurred last Saturday at 10:52 a.m. at South San Antonio Road and Cuesta Drive. Another accident was reported Monday at the intersection of Foothill Expressway and Main Street at 9:49 a.m.

A blue 1998 Honda Civic 4- door was stolen on Miramonte Avene last Saturday, Korges said. The vehicle was believed to have been taken between noon and 10:30 p.m. An investigation is continuing.

A stolen vehicle was recovered Monday on Berry Avenue after a neighbor reported seeing an abandoned vehicle on the street. Officers located a black Honda Accord that reportedly had been stolen in San Jose, Korges said.

Suspects broke into a car in Los Altos Square Saturday night when they cut the top off a vintage Mercedes Benz parked in the west lot of Whole Foods Market, according to Korges.  A camera left inside the vehicle was taken.

A case of petty theft was reported at Los Altos High School when an iPod and iPhone were taken from a locker, Korges said.

Police responded to a 911 call Tuesday when a woman who did not speak English  used the emergency number. Los Altos police responded to the call and when they realized it was a medical issue, contacted medics who provided assistance, Korges said.
