Los Altos Police Blotter: March 4-10

One missing person case, two arrests, three commercial burglaries and eight car accidents are among the incidents reported by the Los Altos Police Department for the week just concluded.

One missing person, two arrests, three commercial burglaries and eight automobile accidents are among the incidents reported by the  for the period from March 4-10.

A 64 year-old man who was staying at a Los Altos Hotel on Camino Real was reported missing by friends on March 7, according to police Capt. Andy Galea. Galea said the man's friends are concerned for his welfare.

At this writing, the man, whose identity has been withheld, has not been found, although there are no indications of foul play, Galea said.

Raymond Schmidke, 21, of  Mountain View was arrested March 8 on a misdemeanor warrant on a charge of making annoying phone calls. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail, Galea said.

Another man, a transient identified as 44-year-old Nicholas James Marten, was arrested on trespassing charges when he showed up at a home on Stevens Place the morning of March 7. He had previously been told not to return to the residence, Galea said.

Three commercial burglaries were also reported this week. The first was March 6 on El Camino Real when unknown suspects broke the front-door window of Clickaway.com Two computers were taken, with an estimated value of $1,900, Galea said.

Two burglaries were reported within hours of each other at two neighboring businesses on South San Antonio Road. The first break-in occurred at 11:23 p.m. on March 10 at the Pancake House. The second was reported just a little more than two hours later at 1:43 a.m. at the adjacent Burgert Town.

The suspect or suspects gained entry by breaking in the rear door, said Sgt. John Korges. In both instances, petty cash of an undisclosed amount was taken.

Police believe both burglaries were carried out by the same person or people because of the similarities, Korges said.

In another burglary incident, tools were taken from a construction site on Summerhill Avenue in Los Altos Hills on March 4. That case was turned over to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

Eight traffic accidents were reported for the period, three with minor injuries and five non-injury incidents.

The first minor injury accident occurred March 4 at 12:24 p.m. at the intersection of Lee Street and Orange Avenue, followed by another accident March 7 at 2 p.m. at the intersection of El Camino Real and San Antonio Road. The third minor injury accident reported was March 9 at 8:51 a.m. at the intersection of West Edith and University avenues.

The non-injury accidents occurred March 5 at 4:18 p.m. on El Sereno Avenue; March 6 at 11:16 a.m. at the intersection of El Camino Real and Showers Drive; March 8 at 9:24 a.m. at the intersection of St. Joseph Avenue and Foothill Expressway; and March 10, when two accidents were reported, one at the  intersection of El Camino Real and Los Altos Avenue at 8:25 p.m., and another on First Street, about two hours earlier.

A motorist was given a citation arrest March 6 at 2:31 a.m. for driving on a suspended license. Also this week, a case of identity theft was reported from a residence on Silvia Court.
