Holiday DUI Arrests, at 60, Are Down So Far

Los Altos recorded one arrest for the first two days of the annual Winter Holiday anti-DUI crackdown, part of the 60 who were arrested county-wide.

Los Altos had one arrest on Friday, among the 60 people arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the first two days of a county-wide annual winter holiday crackdown, down significantly from last year, the county Sheriff's Office spokesman said.

In 2011, 79 DUI arrests occurred during the same 48 hour time period, according to Sgt. Jose Cardoza.

During the anti-DUI crackdown, all regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers focus efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts during the crackdown. In addition, funds have been devoted to multiple DUI/driver’s license checkpoints, multi-agency DUI task force operations and local roving DUI patrols, as part of this region-wide crackdown during the 19-day Winter Holiday Campaign.

Law enforcement encourage all motorists watch for drunk drivers and call 911.
