The woman killed on Tuesday when a big-rig truck hit her as she was in a crosswalk on Foothill Boulevard has been identified as 79-year-old Xiulin Du, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

Du, a Cupertino resident, was struck while starting to cross North Foothill Boulevard near Cupertino Road at about 7 a.m. Tuesday, Santa Clara County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jose Cardoza said.

The accident and the subsequent investigation snarled traffic in the area causing backups on I-280.
