Middlefield was closed for more than 8 hours as police investigated the crash.

A cement truck driver who was killed in a crash in Palo Alto early Saturday was identified Monday by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office as Leonard Lawrence Acosta, a 58-year-old San Jose resident.

Acosta was the only person in the truck when it crashed in the 4200 block of West Middlefield Road at about 5:10 a.m. Saturday, Palo Alto police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Officers shut down West Middlefield for more than eight hours as the accident was investigated, police said. No one else was injured, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
