A Memorial Day Weekend DUI enforcement effort "Avoid the 13" has resulted in 27 DUI arrests in Santa Clara County between Friday, May 25 at 12 a.m. and Saturday, May 27 at midnight.
Last year, there were 57 arrests made during this same time period.
The Avoid the 13 Campaign has implemented routine checkpoints throught the county, in an attempt to crack down on drunk driving this holiday weekend.
The arrest breakdown so far includes:
California Highway Patrol - San Jose: 17
Los Gatos: 4
Milpitas: 2
Mountain View: 3
Palo Alto: 1
Extra DUI Saturation Patrols have been deployed today in the cities of San Jose, Milpitas, Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Altos Hills, Los Gatos and Gilroy.
Drivers are urged not to drink before driving, and the best plan of action: elect a designated driver!
