Services Set For Lt. Todd Lorell on Thursday

The Los Altos resident, Bellarmine graduate and Marine comes home from Twentynine Palms and will be buried at Alta Mesa Cemetery.

 

Marine First Lt. Todd Allen Lorell came home Tuesday afternoon, in a somber and dignified ceremony at San Jose International Airport.

He received a full escort to on Interstate 280 by police and the volunteer veterans' group, the Patriot Guard.At least 28 Patriot Guard, two sheriff's motorcycles, 13 San Jose Police cars in procession and four chase cars participated.

In a moving, silent ceremony, Lorell's flag-draped remains were brought into the chapel at Alta Mesa Cemetery, by a Marine honor guard who brought the casket past a phalanx of flag-bearing Patriot Guard members.

Lorell, 24, was to be deployed to Afghanistan before he killed in traffic accident Aug. 1 in Joshua Tree, Calif., according to KESQ TV in Southern California.

He graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory, then went to the University of Southern California, where he also played rugby.

The funeral will be at Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday.
