Special Games at Mission College, Santa Clara. 3000 children taking part in a very special day We need volunteers.

I am in the Los Altos Kiwanis Club and my two big jobs each year are selling Christmas Trees in November/December at the Lucky Supermarket lot on Foothill Expressway, and the other is the Special Games.

This year, we have 3,000 handicapped children, many in wheelchairs, all taking part in the games, which are held at Mission College in Santa Clara.

Everyone gets an award, even if they are last. It is a truly heartwarming thing to see these children taking part in the various events.

The severely challenged children come from over 60 public and private schools across the Santa Clara County, and we will have hundreds of buses bringing them and their teachers to the day they all look forward to.

After the games, all the teams assemble with their own school and have a picnic lunch.

We could not put this event on, without volunteers. If anyone would like to help on Friday for a couple of hours, please go on the web site www.losaltoskiwanis.org and click on community volunteers and download the packet.

If you can help, we would love to have you.
