Get Out, Los Altos: Plants & Pumpkins

Welcome to our weekend planner, giving you the best weekend activities for Los Altos and surrounding cities.

It’s Thursday, and if you have no idea what you’ll do for the weekend, Patch is coming to the rescue.

We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our picks for the best activities to hit.

1. LOS ALTOS FOLLIES

Find out what's happening in Los Altoswith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Where/When: Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos; Wed-Sat., 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Why go: Catch a laugh at "Scallywags, Snollygosters & Slippery Slopes," a musical parody of modern life and politics.

2. FOOTHILL COLLEGE PLANT SALE

Where/When: Foothill College Nursery & Greenhouse Facilities, 12345 El Monte Rd., Los Altos Hills; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why go: Spruce up your home with some drought-tolerant and native plants from The Foothill College Environmental Horticulture & Design Department. A wide selection of plants will be available, from bamboos to decorative grasses and vegetables. There will be some larger trees for sale, too, but most for-sale plants fit into four-inch pots and one- and five-gallon containers. Bring a box!

3. LOS ALTOS HIGH SCHOOL CHEER CLINIC

Where/When: Los Altos High School Dance Room, 201Almond Ave., Los Altos; Saturday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why go: Give your kids a reason to "rah! rah!" this weekend with the LAHS cheerleaders, where children ages 5 to 13 years old are invited to learn cheerleading, dancing, ribbon making, stunting and gymnastics. Cost includes goodie bags and half-time performance.

Price: $40

4. SAN CARLOS ART & WINE FAIRE

Where/When: San Carlos City Hall, 600 Elm St., San Carlos; Saturday & Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Why go: For a day of food, face painting and henna tatoos—not to mention wine & art!—head on up to San Carlos for the 21st anniversary of this fun fair. Pop star Lisa Loeb is on the live entertainment lineup, and there will be arts & crafts booths galore.

Price: Free entry

5. PUMPKINS IN THE PARK

Where/When: Guadalupe River Park & Gardens, 438 Coleman Ave.,
San Jose; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go: If you're looking for a fun activity for the kids this weekend, head on over to pick a pumpkin, listen to a children's concert and enjoy lots of free kids' activities! Sip on some fresh apple cider as you walk down Scarecrow Row and learn about Guadalupe River Education—don't forget your camera!
