Los Altos Student Talent Evident in 'Young At Art'

High school student artists received recognition and some scholarship money for a wide variety media and subjects from the Los Altos Rotary

The Gazebo at Lincoln Park served as the ‘Young at Art’ exhibit venue for the winning works which were shown together during Rotary’s 2013 ‘Fine Art in the Park’ show the weekend of Saturday May 18, and Sunday, May 19.

The Los Altos Rotary annual ‘Young at Art’ contest selects the top two works from each of six schools serving Los Altos-area high school students according to Frank Verlot, the event chair. Each school selects and submits up to five entries for their school.

A jury of seven Rotary Club members selected the top two works from among each school’s submittals.

First prize winners received a stipend of $150 and second prize winners receive $100 toward their college funds from the Rotary Club.

The winners include:

Alta Vista High School: 1st place to Tyler Birdsell for his colored block print titled ‘Daryll Abbot’ and 2nd place to Vinnie Navarro for his watercolor titled ‘Marsh Scene.’

Los Altos area residents who attend and support the Rotary’s ‘Fine Art in the Park’  event during that May weekend help make this contest possible, said . From mid-April through mid-May the works were exhibited at three downtown Los Altos business venues, including Bank of the West on Main Street, Boston Private Bank on San Antonio Ave, and the Nature Gallery on State Street.
