Los Altos has been named to the League of American Bicyclists list of bike-friendly communities.
League president Andy Clarke points out that bike-friendly communities reach deep into the suburbs now.
"One of the great challenges in envisioning a truly bicycle-friendly America is the need to transform suburban communities," Clarke said in a statement.
Los Altos was singled out because of the good condition of roads and ‘a strong group of cycle enthusiasts (skilled adults) who regularly use city facilities as part of their recreational rides.’
The League’s Bicycle Friendly America program provides a roadmap, hands-on assistance and recognition for states, communities, universities and businesses.
The BFA program is a tool for states, communities, business and universities to make bicycling a real transportation and recreation option for all people, the league says.
