Did You Lose A Parakeet? Almond School May Have It

A cute little bird seems a bit forlorn, and is waiting in the Almond School office.

Is anyone missing a parakeet?

The call went out on Craigslist and neighborhood listservs. Almond School employees are trying to reunite bird with owner after find a "sweet little parakeet" on campus Thursday morning "looking sad."

Jane Sanders said they noticed a small knot of students gathered outside the administration offices before school started about 8:15 a.m.

"Someone said 'There's a bird outside!' and there was a little circle of kids around this bird, and he was on a girl's shoe, nibbling on her shoe laces," Sanders said.

She scooped up the bird and brought it in and put him in a box.

Now she's just waiting for a call.

It's white and blue, about 7 inches, "beak to tail," she said. Actually, about 4 inches of bird and about 3 inches of tail feathers, all told.

She thinks it is from the area becaus it doesn't appear to fly much.

"It can kind of flutter a bit," she said.

She took a call while Patch waited. "That was a mom who said they are missing a parakeet, but he is mostly blue and a little white."

Wrong missing parakeet, she sighed.

If you know where the little guy lives, please call Jayne in the Almond school office at 650-917-5400. (But don't wait until the end of the school day, he might get carted off to Animal Services.)
