Midwife, Doula Needs Help to Pay For Leukemia Treatments

Friends hope to raise $10,000 to help Lisa Showalter pay for her medical expenses.

Written by Sheila Sanchez

Los Gatos midwife and doula Lisa Showalter was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia earlier this year after suffering a severe migraine that lasted for more than a week, according to the GoFundMe crowdfunding website.

She has undergone an aggressive and exhausting regimen of chemotherapy, which included brain surgery to inject the chemo directly into her cerebrospinal fluid, according to information posted on her campaign page.

Without work, the costs of Showalter's treatment and recovery have risen to a sizable amount and now her friends hope the GoFundMe website will help them raise $10,000 to help pay for her medical bills.
