What You Need to Know About Transit on 4th of July

Heading to San Francisco, San Jose or Oakland via transit? Sunday schedules apply, but there are more trains at game times and after the fireworks.

With the long holiday weekend in swing, you might be headed to festivities around the Bay Area via transit.

Most transit agencies will be operating on a Sunday schedule on the July 4th holiday, with some offering extra service for fireworks and baseball.

Here's information you may want to know, so you can get to where you're going and still reduce your carbon footprint:

Caltrain, VTA, BART, SamTrans, San Francisco Muni, and AC Transit, all report that they will be operating on Sunday schedules on Monday. (VTA will have no service at all for the Dumbarton Express, ACE train and shuttles, DASH and IBM/Hatachi.)

Caltrain also will offer extra trains from San Francisco following the fireworks at along the Embarcadero, departing at 11:15 p.m., 11:30 p.m. and 12:01 a.m. These are express trains running directly to San Carlos, which then make all stops along the route to San Jose Diridon station. The last regularly scheduled train, which makes all stops including those north of San Carlos, will leave San Francisco at 9:15 p.m.

BART will run extra trains in the evening to accommodate crowds
attending the Embarcadero fireworks display in San Francisco.

Earlier in the day, BART will also run longer trains for baseball games in San Francisco and in Oakland in the afternoon. The Oakland Athletics are playing the Seattle Mariners at 1:05 p.m., and the San Francisco Giants will be playing the San Diego Padres at 2:05 p.m.

July 4th is also a parking holiday for BART, meaning that
parking permit and fee requirements at stations will not be enforced.

SF Muni expects to offer additional service and to reroute some lines
in connection with the Fourth of July fireworks, and will also offer extra service to and from the Giants game.
