Weather: Heavy Rain and Wind Hit Bay Area, Flood Watches For Local Creeks

Driving rain, strong wind, and overflowing storm drains make for a soggy, challenging day, on or off the road.

The Bay Area was hit by a heavy rain and wind advisories were in effect for part of the day.

Moderate to heavy showers have caused localized flooding on some Bay Area roadways and made driving challenging. About 1,700 customers in Los Altos, Sunnyvale and other parts of the South Bay experienced power outages in the early afternoon but power was restored to Los Altos by late afternoon, PG&E spokeswoman Fiona Chan said.

The National Weather Service, which was monitoring water levels, issued flash flood warnings San Mateo County and Santa Cruz County late in the afternoon through early evening.

Neighbors along Adobe Creek in Los Altos reported water levels rising to the point that some backyards were deluged, but there was no evacuation of the area.  Los Altos Hills Town Councilman Gary Waldeck said Matadero Creek and the Creek near Purissima Avenue were also running at full capacity when he passed during the height of the storm.
