Other communities have tree lightings this week. Los Altos Hills has its Holiday Barn Lighting.
The event showcases Westwind Barn, which acts as the hills' unofficial community center. It encourages informal dress and a neighborly spirit. The Los Altos Hills Recreation Department has arranged for a petty zoo, pony rides, and arts and crafts for kids. It's invited local vinters, will have hot apple cider, and kids can visit with Santa in an elegant carriage.
At 4 p.m., the lights are thrown on at the barn, and Santa rides off into the sunset.
