Motorcyclist Dies in Highway Crash

59-year-old Los Altos man had been traveling on southbound Highway 101, north of University Avenue in East Palo Alto when he was struck.

A Los Altos motorcyclist died from injuries sustained in a crash on southbound U.S. Highway 101 in East Palo Alto on Friday, after he lost control of his 2007 Kawasaki and hit the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 59-year-old rider had been traveling on the highway north of University Avenue at 7:40 p.m., when, for reasons unknown, he lost control of the motorcycle, the CHP said.

A green 2000 Toyota Corolla, driven by 32-year-old Steve Manuel Saman, from Hayward, struck the bike after it went down, said CHP officer Ralph Caggiano. He received no injuries and was not arrested.

Menlo Park Fire personnel and American Medical Response paramedics responded to the scene and transported the rider to Stanford University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m.

The collision remains under investigation, and it was unknown as of this morning whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision, the CHP said.
