Los Altos Marine Killed in Southern California Crash
California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash which backed up traffic on the highway for several hours.
A 24-year-old Marine from Los Altos was killed early Wednesday in a traffic collision near the San Bernardino County community of Joshua Tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.
As reported by the Hi-Desert Star, First Lt. Todd Allen Lorell was driving a Honda Civic westbound on Twentynine Palms Highway at 2:50 a.m. when his vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and rammed head-on into a semi-trailer truck. Lorell died at the scene while the 50-year-old driver of the truck was taken to an area hospital.
Lorell was a logistics officer stationed at the Marine Corps base in Twentynine Palms.
