Get Along, Little Doggies—and Kitties, and Wormies ...

On Saturday at 10 a.m., the 64th Annual Pet Parade debuts in a new month, but the pets will be as diverse as ever.

The 64th annual Pet Parade, the city's most enduring—endearing—tradition takes place on Main Street at 10 a.m. Saturday, after a four-month wait to let downtown construction wrap up.

The construction isn't done, but the show will go on, the Los Altos Kiwanis, organizer of the pet parade, says.

Much beloved, Los Altos' parade isn't the only one in these parts. Burlingame's takes place on the same day, the same time, and even has a celebrity to lead it off. Redwood City had its 10th annual pet parade last May. The Los Altos parade began in 1947, 64 years ago, the same year as the Kiwanis Club.

But that doesn't mean it's the oldest. La Grange, Ill., which calls theirs "America's Original Pet Parade"—had its 65th annual pet parade in June.

We don't need superalatives. Where ever there are kids and pets, and a street to parade down, well, that's enough.
