Foothill College Student Wins iPad from Patch

Chauffeur duty for her brothers' run at Bay to Breakers turns lucky for aspiring radiologist.

Foothill College student Janelle Navarret is the proud new owner of an iPad, courtesy of Patch.

During the Bay to Breakers centennial race, she was killing time, waiting for her brothers to finish the race.

“I don’t drink, so they asked me to drop them off and pick them up at Golden Gate,” Navarett said.

That’s when her brother’s girlfriend spotted the tote bags being given away at the Patch booth that was set up along the race route, and decided to spin the Wheel of Patch to try and win one.  (The Wheel of Patch is very similar to the Wheel of Fortune, except that you can’t win a high five on the Wheel of Fortune. And it’s upright like a pinwheel, instead of on its side like a merry go round.)

They both signed up for the Patch newsletter and were entered into a drawing for an iPad.  Out of the roughly 1,900 people who entered the contest, Navarret won!  Congratulations, Janelle!

Who’s Janelle?

Janelle is Menlo-Atherton High School class of 2007 alum who is studying to be a radiologist at Foothill College. She was never much of a an Apple fan girl until she got an iPhone. Now she can’t stop playing with it, she said.

“Love it,” she said.

The Menlo Park resident may or may not share her new iPad with her six siblings, two step sisters, and half brother. Maybe if they ask nicely, she will.
