The group started with 100 women willing to donate $100 each and has grown to include a membership base of 480 women who donated $142,500 last year.

The Los Altos-based group receives about 70 applications and its committees research and visit them in an effort to winnow it down to six organizations, who send representatives to its membership dinner in March. After members listen to presentations from six organizations, they vote to award three grants of $40,000 and three grants of $7,500.
