The lights were twinkling inside and the conversation, along with the shopping, was lively at Cover Story Thursday evening, which put on a benefit for The 100 Women Charitable Foundation.
"Carols and Cosmos for Charity" was a festive way to raise a little of the substantial amount 100 Women give each year on the Peninsula.
The group started with 100 women willing to donate $100 each and has grown to include a membership base of 480 women who donated $142,500 last year.
The Los Altos-based group receives about 70 applications and its committees research and visit them in an effort to winnow it down to six organizations, who send representatives to its membership dinner in March. After members listen to presentations from six organizations, they vote to award three grants of $40,000 and three grants of $7,500.
Last March, they gave grants to Art of Yoga, Each One Reach One, and Family and Children Services – The Hub. An additional three groups received “Investment” grants: Mountain View’s RotaCare Free Clinic, Achieve Kids and Sunday Friends.
