Annie's Update: First Street Opening to One-Way Traffic Nov. 11

The First Street construction update this week shows off the fountain after the concrete was poured (but before the tiles come in), and a bunch of infrastructural work on gas lines, irrigation and electrical conduits.

For those who have wearied of First Street closure (we guess that would be everyone), the city has a date for opening trafic to one-way circulation, at last: Nov. 11.

The phased-opening map is posted on the firststreetla.org website.

For those youngsters planning on trick-or-treating on Halloween afternoon downtown, don't forget First Street merchants have treats ready, too.

Now, onto the rest of Annie's Update, more prosaically named "First Street Construction Update," that is emailed to those who sign up. This service began when First Street construction ramped up mid-July. Each week Patch provides an abridged version of the update.

Last week, crew poured the fountain, but the main activity was a lot of foundational work, whether grading the roadbed, laying baserock, installing gas and water lines, completing curb and gutter concrete, and more.

Here's what's coming up this week:

For Oct. 31 - Nov. 4:

    •    Install tile for new fountain
    •    Demolish the State St curb & gutter adjacent to the project
    •    Install final layers of aggregate and soil for the new First Street roadbed
    •    Complete grading and compacting of new roadbed in preparation for paving
    •    Pave the first layer (lift) of asphalt on First Street
    •    Continue work on new traffic signal control box
    •    Continue landscaping area preparation
    •    Continue gas line connection work
    •    Continue engineering design work on sidewalk transition and ground elevations on State Street at First Street
