Terraces at Los Altos Retirement Community Completes Phase 1 of $100M Renovation

The Terraces at Los Altos recently completed Phase I of the community’s transformation, introducing brand-new memory support and skilled nursing residences and enhancing the lifestyle and quality care options for older adults in the Los Altos area.

The transformation at the community includes 30 skilled nursing suites and is one of the first of its kind in California to offer “neighborhood-style” suites that surround common spaces, which include a kitchen and open living and dining room, to increase social interaction among residents.

Skilled nursing will offer short-term and long-term care, and include customized programs based on each individual’s needs.

The community has also added 16 private memory support suites that are centered around The Best Friends™ Approach. This innovative program focuses on building relationships with residents based on individual life stories and experiences, and provides a therapeutic environment, creative activities, and well-trained professionals who help residents feel safe, secure and valued.

“The Terraces at Los Altos is the first in Los Altos to offer memory support residences and with Alzheimer’s and dementia on the rise, the need for additional residences is growing,” said Rae Holt, Executive Director at The Terraces at Los Altos.

“The opening of the skilled nursing and memory support residences is a significant enhancement to our community, and will provide the opportunity to enrich the lives of area seniors for many years to come,” said Holt.

“Through thoughtful design and planning, we’ve created a warm, welcoming and interactive environment to help area seniors get the most out of life.”

Over the next two years, The Terraces at Los Altos will continue its $100 million community transformation. Construction is set to begin on Phase II, in the spring, and will include 30 new assisted living residences.

After Phase II is completed, work will begin on Phase III, which will include 81 new residential living apartments.

New common areas will also be completed as part of Phase III, featuring a fitness center, restaurant-style dining venues, library, movie theatre and more. All construction is scheduled to be complete in 2016.
