The El Camino Hospital Bariatric Surgery Program recently achieved its re-accreditation as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the leading bariatric specialty organization in the country.
This accreditation means that the Bariatric Surgery program operates at the highest levels of professional quality and patient care. The team, led by Bariatric Nurse, Karen Thomas, underwent a rigorous process of evaluations to ensure the highest levels of quality across safety, training, follow-up, and surgical volume standards.
“We are proud to have once again achieved Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence accreditation, as it assures our patients that we can provide consistent, high quality care,” said Prithvi Legha, MD, medical director of the Bariatric Surgery program. “From pre-surgical consultations to ongoing post-surgical support, our team brings an unparalleled level of expertise to help our patients at every stage in the process.”
Two of those patients include Diana and Chad, a married couple from Silicon Valley, who had both struggled with their weight and a number of accompanying health issues including sleep apnea, type-2 diabetes and high cholesterol. Following their back-to-back bariatric surgeries three years ago, Diana has lost at least 135 lbs. and Chad has lost at least 80 lbs; the weight loss has had an incredible impact on both of their lives.
