PHOTOS: The Walter & Marie Singer Award Event
Chef Chu's eldest son, Larry Chu Jr., joins a long and distinguished line of community-service oriented business leaders in garnering the chamber's most prestigious award.
Good-natured jabs were thrown, a several jokes were made, and when the dust settled between Mel Kahn, the 2001 winner of the Walter and Marie Singer Business Volunteer Award, and Larry Chu Jr., the new 2011 winner, there was one more red bowtie pin in the club.
And, as always, there was a salute to Walter Singer, known as "Mr. Los Altos," and his wife, Marie, who was his partner in all things community during his very productive life here.
Chu, whose father Lawrence Chu, won the award in 1996, arrived with a phalanx of his family and friends that filled several tables, including his very first teacher, Nora Thornycraft, and David Janick, his mentee, with whom he has spent two years, now attending Foothill College.
