Los Altos Developers Solve Gaming Puzzle
How do you transform a puzzle into a competitive game? MFV has put the pieces together.
Written by Beatrice Karnes
Most of us have spent some leisure time putting together a jigsaw puzzle, often of a beautiful landscape. But game development studio MFV, with offices in Los Altos and Cary, NC, is removing ‘leisure’ and replacing it with ‘cutthroat’ as it turns puzzles into a competitive game.
And those beautiful landscapes have been replaced by Kaiju monsters in the company’s first release for iPad. The monsters emerge from the sea in the Guillermo del Toro film Pacific Rim, released this week and currently showing in local theaters.

MFV has teamed with NECA/WizKids to create Connect With Pieces. According to the game’s website, “Unlike traditional puzzle games, Connect With Pieces combines challenge and strategy — each puzzle piece has a special embossed symbol, and can fit in more than one location! Look out for the symbols and match your puzzle pieces in patterns to garner the most points!”
MFV’s focus is bridging the gap between physical toys and interactive games. It’s a small design studio with a few dozen employees.
