Job Fair Today Aims to Link Unemployed With Local Work

Thursday's Employee Connection Job Fair in San Jose can offer Los Altos job-seekers the opportunity to meet employers from throughout Santa Clara County.

In Los Altos, unemployment is roughly 6 percent, about 40 percent lower than the rest of Santa Clara County, which is currently at around 10.3 percent, according to the California Employment Development Department. For those seeking work, the Santa Clara County Social Services Agency’s 2011 Employee Connection Job Fair, taking place today, aims to link the unemployed with jobs at companies ranging from VTA to Best Buy to Edible Arrangements.

Where/when it is: 1879 Senter Road, Door #10, in San Jose, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

What you should know: While the job fair is open to all members of the public, it is also an opportunity for CalWorks clients who have timed out of financial aid under new state regulations, which lowered the maximum time to receive it from 60 to 48 months. In Santa Clara County, 700 families lost their aid beginning on July 1.

If you go, be sure to bring multiple copies of your resume to hand out to employers. Follow-up with a thank-you note or email.

Why you should go: There is a wide-range of participating employers this year, including VTA, AMTRAK, AEROTEK, BBSI, Wendy’s, Western & Southern Life, Securitas, Coast Personnel Services, VOLT Workforce Solution, and Edible Arrangements.

The fair provides a prime opportunity to make direct face-to-face connections with Santa Clara County employers who are actively hiring.
